17th of October 2021, the citizens of Viljandi voted in the local government council elections, and here are the results:

·         The Electoral Coalition Union Hearted in Viljandi won the election with 26,6% of the votes and got 8 seats.

·         The ruling Estonian Reform Party came second with a narrow margin, with 26.4% of the votes, and got 7 seats

·         The Conservative People's Party of Estonia got 16,6% of the votes and 4 seats

·         The Pro Patria Union Party got 13,4% of the votes and 4 seats

·         Estonia 200 Party got 9,6% of the votes and 2 seats

·         The Estonian Centre Party got 7,2% of the votes and 2 seats

The Electoral Coalition Union Hearted in Viljandi, the Estonian Reform Party, and the Estonian Centre Party have formed The Town Council coalition. The Pro Patria Union Party, The Estonia 200 Party and The Conservative People's Party of Estonia are in the opposition.

The Estonian Reform Party holds the following posts:

  1. Mayor, Mr Madis Timpson
  2. Deputy Chairman of the City Council, Mr Tiit Jürmann
  3. Deputy Mayor. Mr Kalvi Märtin
  4. Member of the Town Government, Mr Kert Villems

The Estonian Centre Party holds the following posts:

  1. Member of the Town Government, Mr Karl Õmblus

As before, there are 27 representatives in the Viljandi Town Council, which is the legislative branch of the local government and there are 8 members in the Viljandi Town Government, the executive branch of the local government.

The 27 member town council represents just under 17 000 citizens of Viljandi and is the law-giving body, equivanelt to the parliament on state level.
